Background

In today's increasingly tech-driven world, the skill of programming and writing computer codes can help students to create apps, websites, and software. It can also help develop logical thinking and problem-solving skills. Besides, these skills allow students to figure out solutions to problems on their own, independently correct errors and assist in developing their cognitive abilities. Programming requires creativity and critical thinking- both of which are skills that are much sought-after in today’s competitive world.

In India, 52 percent of all jobs require a basic understanding of computers. However, only 7 percent of children have any form of computer literacy. This is why schools and preschools across the country have incorporated computer coding programs as part of their curricula. However, not everyone has access to this education. Private schools that provide these skills are inaccessible to a large portion of the population. This is why there is an urgent need for NGOs and social workers to step up and address these concerns. Technical fields are already characterized by their exclusive nature. If inequality is to be addressed in any substantial way, urgent efforts are needed to bridge this gap.
